The ‘I Do’ Directory

Jun 20, 2018 | Home, Lifestyle, What's New

By Jennifer Devlin

For this ‘directory’ we did what our readers are likely to do, homework. We scoured the internet, consulting websites like The Knot and Yelp. We read Google Reviews and delved through delicious pictures from bakeries and cake makeres on Instagram; all to bring you ideas for your wedding. When it comes to the food, venue and the dress (or tux) we could only wish and want the best of the best for our readers who are ready to make that special lifelong commitment.

Lehigh Valley

Cake:
A rising star in the Easton baking community can be found at Love Bites by Erika. Taking a look at her instagram you’ll find pops of color, creativity and vibrance. She works in all “mediums’ off baked goods and takes great pride in the work she does for weddings. Erika partners with the future Mr. and Mrs. to create a cake that correlates their with vision, whether its a “Naked Cake” with fresh blossoms or a “watercolor” buttercream.

Dress:
Deborah LoPresti, another Easton based business woman, is a designer of couture bridal gowns (and dresses for any occasion). Her work can be viewed at her website and on a segment from Good Morning America. Deborah took bride-to-be’s 120 year old gown and transformed it into a work that honored the past while being viable for future generations of wear. Deborah uses her talent to create works that are unique and beautiful using “some of the world’s finest fabrics’ and hand sewing techniques with a goal of a final product that flatters every client’s figure.

Tux:
Rogues and Regs Custom Clothiers located in Allentown has a sharp and professional website and an even more impressive staff. Started by a true entrepreneur, Aaron Houtsch, they create clothing that speaks to men who crave functionality and fashion. Aaron’s tailoring passions formed after a long road of self reflection, ingenuity and ceaseless ambition. After a job loss in 2009 where he worked as a welder he spent time building an at-home tailoring business that transformed into the company it is today. They make suits for all occasions with meticulous attention to detail.

Hair and Makeup:
Alisha Nycole + CO of Easton has an incredible on-site bridal hair and makeup team that will make your day fabulous. They work throughout the Lehigh Valley and Philadelphia creating beautiful styles that range from braiding to flower accented updo’s. They have some of the best work in the Lehigh Valley with plenty of examples to view on their Instagram @msalishanycole.

Venue:
There are quite a few venues to choose from throughout the Lehigh Valley such as the Sayre Mansion in South Bethlehem or the Historic Hotel Bethlehem (and plenty of country clubs scattered throughout). In particular we liked a spot in Allentown called Vault 634 at the heart of the City Centre district. It’s bookable strictly for its gorgeous ceiling but according to the Knot.com this venue is, “located within the grand halls of the historic Lehigh Valley Trust Building….boasts four authentic Hess’ chandeliers… four antique vaults, rich gold-leafed plaster, an intimate 1920’s speakeasy and a sweeping marble staircase.” It’s a must see when you tour potential venues.

The Poconos

Cake:
The Stroudsmoor Country Inn of Stroudsburg sits atop a 300 acre mountain and not only accommodates wedding cakes and planning but has a spa, suites and 5 incredible venue locations. It would certainly fit well in our venue section but their cakes are what really ‘takes the cake’ in the Poconos. They are prepared by master pastry chefs and decorators on location. They offer 14 flavors, 7 stacking options and plenty of icing styles to make your perfect big day bite.

Hair and Makeup:
Head First Hair Designs Salon of Pocono Summit has a great display of their work available via their Facebook page. They don’t have a single rating below a four star and their customers have been immensely pleased with the services and work that they provide. They are praised for a “friendly and professional atmosphere.” and “always a great experience!”.

Venue:
Tall Timber Barn of Canadensis, PA is the perfect location for couples who are searching to create a rustic and woodland feel for their wedding. Tall Timber Barn can create a setting of crisp, clean table linens and classic silver table settings or mason jars with wildflowers and fun colorful touches. If you desire a fire pit, long wooden farm tables for your guests to dine and relax or a game of crochet for after the reception; this venue is the one for you.

Tux:
We didn’t find many custom tailors in the Poconos area apart from your usual franchised companies like Men’s Warehouse but that doesn’t mean you can’t get a quality tux from a rental location. If you’re inclined to have something made specifically you can consider Rogues and Regs in Allentown for a custom fit.

Dress:
This one might be a little drive for some of our readers as it’s located in the Wilkes-Barre area but the solid five star reviews on the Knot make it a must-visit location. The Lounge of Kingston has dress sizes ranging from 0 through 30 and plenty of accessories like tiaras, veils and jewelry to complete your wedding look. One bride claimed it was her “first and only stop” in the journey for her dress and another claimed she would “go here a million times over.” The Lounge also has dresses for all occasions so think prom, galas and any other fancy celebrations you might have penciled into your agenda this year.

New Jersey

Cake:
Blue Sheep Bake Shop of Somerset has a seemingly endless and enormous gallery of photographs on their website that showcase their work with weddings, birthdays, baby showers, retirements, bridal showers and grooms cakes. If you can think of a reason for a cake Blue Sheep Bake Shop can likely show you an example of one they have created for such an occasion. Their wedding cakes range in from bold colors, to gold, Henna designs, fresh blooms and even a beautiful Great Gatsby themed cake! If their gallery doesn’t convince you of their phenomenal work their onlines reviews will.

Hair and Makeup:
Gatsby Salon of Greenbrook offers great service in a chic environment with friendly staff and drinks on hand when you sit down for your appointment. Reviewers rave about being patrons of 2 and 3 decades with constant compliments on their hair colors and styles. Gatsby’s does manicures, pedicures, bridal makeup and hair as well as threading and waxing. They provide a list of services on their website that includes cost for on and offsite needs.

Venue:
There are numerous venues throughout New Jersey that focus on the farm/barn/rustic vibe that has been popular in recent years but we were drawn to Nanina’s in the Park in Belleville which includes a gorgeous ballroom, breathtaking garden and a mansion estate and park. They have a full five stars and been honored with The Knot’s Best of Weddings for eight years in a row. Nanina’s has even secured a spot in the Knot’s the Hall of Fame. Currently they are making some exciting renovations to their facilities for the 2018 season.

Tux:
Roma Tailors LLC, has multiple locations including one in Denville They are a custom tailor company with perfect 5 stars on Google. Roma Tailors strives for professional excellence with the intent to treat every patron with ideal customer service and quality of care. This shines through in their reviews which include comments such as, “Great service, great work.” and “The suits are made timely, they look amazing, and they fit like a glove.”. Additionally, there are plenty of mentions about incredible affordability compared to other locations.

Dress:
Castle Couture of Manalapan Township, NJ has 820 Google reviews, 85% of which are 5 star which means that this is the place to go. They have a marvelous spirling grand staircase and beautiful chandelier that would be a Cinderella-esque scene to walk down in your gown (that is if they allow it). Castle Couture offers gowns for “nearly any style wedding and nearly any budget”. Their collections can be viewed online and you can even add your favorites to their wishlist section!

Philadelphia

Cake:
Whipped Bakeshop on Belgrade street creates truly marvelous and delectable treats. Their Instagram account is scattered with pastel macaroons, cute cut out cookies, Eagles themed treats and spectacular wedding cakes. Their reviews sing their praises, “Fabulous service! Fabulous Grooms cake!”, “The cake was absolutely delicious and we still have guests raving about how good our cake was”. This bakery can whip you up exactly what you’re looking for on your wedding day.

Hair and Makeup:
Duette Hair and Makeup Design has been awarded the Best of Weddings on the Knot three times and their reviews reassert their talent. “Lindsey and her team are just amazing!!”, “I have never felt so beautiful in my entire life.”, “AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING”.

Venue:
Philadelphia has so many different and breathtaking venues to choose from but one of our favorites is Cescaphe Ballroom. This venue is affiliated with the company Cescaphe who are wedding planners with excellent reviews and a selection of one of a kind venues; the Ballroom is just the tip of the iceberg. Cescaphe plans every last detail for your big day and you can trust us when we say that their ballroom is just the cherry on top of the cake.

Tux:
For a great experience and perfect fit Armen’s Custom Tailor Studio in Manayunk is your go-to for a tuxedo (and bridal alterations!). He has “fair prices and top-notch work.” Owner Armen is hailed as a “true craftsman”, “lifesaver” and “hands-down the best tailor in Philly, PERIOD.”

Dress:
Philly Bride on Walnut Street is the height of adorable and chic. They’re an appointment only boutique store that supplies designer gowns and caters to plus size women. They’re located in a gorgeous building with stunning vintage chandeliers and curtained windows. Their online reviews speak of their exceptional service and great selection.
